The Congresbury team of Ann King, Clive Shipway , Kate Herbison and Brian Herbison having won the Somerset Area Final of the National Mixed Fours competition have booked their place at the National Finals at Royal Leamington Spa at the end of August in a bid to become England champions!

After a series of wins in the Tony Allcock Trophy (otherwise known as the Over 60s’ National Mixed 2 Rink Competition), Congresbury won the Somerset Area Final and now face St Austell of Cornwall for place in the National Finals at Leamington. The two Congresbury rinks  (pictured right) are Jenny Byett, Steve Eastment, Kate and Brian Herbison and Ann King, Dawn Harrison, Dave Byett and Reg Birmingham.

Congresbury’s success doesn’t stop there. In Somerset County competitions Dave and Jenny Byett are having a successful run. Jenny has reached the semi-final in the ‘unbadged 4 wood singles’ and they are both still in the running in the mixed pairs. Ironically, they will play against each other in the Hon. Secretaries competition if their success continues.

In the National Senior 4s competition, the ladies rink of Jenny Byett, Jenny Blagden, Ann King and Kate Herbison reached the Somerset final, finishing runners-up. Ann King and Kate Herbison also had a good run in the  National Senior Pairs, again reaching the Somerset area final played ay Wyrrall Park, Glastonbury.  Having been well down all the game they caught up, but lost on the last end.
