2022 COMMONWEALTH PARA GAMES

The 1st trial for selecting the DBE Bowls Team, took place at Waddesdon Bowls Club located in the beautiful grounds of Waddesdon Manor, former home of the Rothschild family.

Those playing were members of the DBE ” England high performance squad” which included Congresbury’s Anthony Page.

The trial consisted of 3 games, played between 10.00am and 5.30pm.  For Ant this meant playing lead for the 2 games of pairs and at 2 for the triples game.

As you would expect the standard was very high and the trialists were encouraged to be vocal and develop a team spirit.

They were watched and each shot marked not only by the DBE managers and team but with Ellen Faulkner, multiple gold medal winner with Bowls England team and John McGuinness, Bowls England high performance manager in attendance making their own assessments.

Ant bowled well throughout the day and more than matched his opposite numbers despite the pressure and certainly represented both himself and our club in a manner we can be proud of.

He now has to wait whilst the assessment is carried out and the format of the games are decided which will dictate the number players for the various categories of disability.
